I am a Kansas City-based artist currently completing a BFA in photography and art history degree at the Kansas City Art Institute. I am a lens-based artist but also work with other mediums. My work explores a variety of topics ranging from visual perception to more personal subjects concerning cultural and past experiences.
I explore topics of personal and cultural identity and appropriation of my own culture through self-portraiture. Having grown up caught between two cultures and being seen as an "other" by both, I am interested in the discussion that is created through appropriation of symbols that are often associated with Mexican and Latino culture in general. Along with these topics I am also interested in interior spaces, which have influenced much of my work until now. My photographs are driven by ideas of repetition and accumulation. The use of the photographic medium allows for these ideas to be reinforced.
